No Blitz Tonight

put these #chess tournaments in your diary

|highlights for april|

April 5: Hendon Chess Club Blitz is cancelled. We don’t like to cancel stuff but our new venue at Unitarians Church ain’t big enough for a league match and a blitz tournament without upsetting someone. Future events on the First Thursday of each month should be ok. If you want to come along anyhow and play some friendly games, you’ll be welcome.

April 14: Golders Green Rapidplay (www.goldersgreenchess.blogspot.com) at St Albans Church Hall, West Heath Drive NW11 7QG. 4 sections for beginners to grandmasters.  This year is a big year for us, come and find out why we’ve been going for so long!

April 20-22: Bournemouth ‘Grand’ Chess Congress (www.bournemouthchesscongress.org.uk) is a really excellent initiative by Martin Simons and his colleagues in a lovely venue. First prize is a grand - geddit?

April 26: Simultaneous Display over 30 boards plus a lecture by International Master  Lorin d’Costa at Hendon Chess Club (http://www.hendonchessclub.com/simul/) - our strongest member, and now the proud author of several excellent books, which he will sign for you. If you buy them.

28 April-1 May: Bratto (Italy) Amateur Chess Tournament 28 April-1 May (www.chesspro.it). For some reason Italy’s answer to Sean Hewitt, organiser Matteo Zoldan, thought I would be a good addition to the arbiting team at this new event in the Dolomite mountains. Lovely spa hotel and wonderful views, under 2300 and under 2000 sections with generous prizes. Come and join us.
